Faces of Change
|
|
Dark Drama

|
I was asked to write the music for the opening scene of the
Multistory Films
production, Faces of Change. This thought provoking and engaging production is beautifully
shot with stunning acting. Producer: Ruaidhri
O'Mahony
Director: Emma Biggins
Cast:
David Oakes Jennifer
Bath
Faces of Change mp3, 1 mins 25 secs,
2,009KB - for orchestra and piano. This dark short drama starts with a young
couple striding happily along a sunlit road until they arrive at his flat. They
kiss. As she goes to leave he pulls her back for another kiss. He stands
watching her walk away: his vitality, his happiness drain away - an aching void
now where delight was only moments before.

Action Sequence mp3, 2
min 40 secs, 3.76MB - there are numerous action sequences in the film involving
fights, chases and loads of excitement. I wrote this as a candidate for some of
those scenes.
A Crushing Loss mp3, 3 mins 22 secs,
4.752MB - the hero suffers terribly as he grieves for his murdered wife.
Samson's Theme (light-hearted),
2 mins 44 secs, 3.867MB - an early scene in the film opens with the sinister
looking shot of Samson and his wife chained to a wall. Whilst trying to decide
which particular bad guys they've upset this time, the scene descends into a
domestic feud about Christmas shopping - just before the bad guy comes in and it
all gets serious.
Samson King - theme
mp3, 1 min 20secs, 1.905MB - enthusiastic amateur marching wind band from
centuries gone
I was asked to write a theme for the lead character, Samson
King.
Samson King is somewhat of a reluctant hero, he is
purposeful, a warrior, rustic,
straightforward, Scottish – his treatment in the script is both light-hearted
and heroic, all this would make him quite charismatic I think – a popular guy to
be around.
Living in a medieval tower with a small band of souls he had
save in previous adventures, there was an element of the Pied Piper about him.
Samson King -
dark treatment mp3, 1 min 27 secs, 2.042MB - sinister strings and woodwind,
same theme as aboveI wrote this treatment of the Samson King theme to check
it would stand up to different types of treatment.
Here I wrote the Samson King theme (lighthearted, heroic, purposeful) for
some of the suspense scenes. Where Samson is stalking his way round the village
or forest at night.
At the end of this track I add a hint of Samson's lighthearted disposition -
whilst retain the sinister flavour. All with the same Samson King theme.

Becky's Birthday
|
|
New Born Suite
Movement 1
 |
My brave wife has had a difficult pregnancy and
labour but has delivered us the most wonderful little girl - Becky.
I wrote this piece to mark the occasion of her birth
and depict our roller-coaster ride of emotions during the days leading to her
birth.
Becky's Birthday mp3, 3 mins 49 secs,
5,388KB - uncertainty and trepidation builds until unbridled joy gushes forth
(also reflecting Becky's feisty nature here), then happy, relieved, peace. After
the worry, the pain, the joy - we are left with the bliss of a beautiful
sleeping baby.

First Time Out With The Baby

New Born Suite
Movement 2

|
I wrote this piece as the second piece depicting how
our life is changing now that we have beautiful baby Becky.
I wrote this as I watched my wife keenly assembling her new pram, anticipating
with relish taking her new baby out in her new pram.
First Day Out With The Baby mp3,
2 mins 7 secs,
2,988KB - harp, piano, strings, horns. Depicts the first outing of a proud
mother, with her new baby and new pram. Warmed by the Autumn sun, she pushes her
gift to the world past admiring strangers and through crisp fallen leaves.

A Bad Day At The Office
|
|
New Born Suite
Movement 3
|
I wrote this piece as the third piece depicting how
our life is changing now that we have beautiful baby Becky.
A Bad Day At The Office mp3,
2 mins 54 secs,
4,093KB - for full orchestra. During the week I had a bad day at work. Exhausted
through lack of sleep (thank you Becky!) and irritated by what looked like
recklessness, I felt this uncontrollable welling up of prickly frustration. A
bad day, but an inspiration for this piece.

The latest project by exciting young writer/director
Fraser Coull and his first full length feature. A

many before them, for the ultimate in swordsmanship competitions.
It is expected to go into production during the
first half of 2006. This is the music I wrote to underscore the promotional
trailer.
Trailer-b Music mp3, 1 min 2 secs, 1.46MB - warm opening lifting into a
short section of driving rhythms before melting into a tense slow build and then
letting fly to close. This is a longer version of "trailer-a".
Trailer-b VIDEO
wmv, 2.609MB - with music and sound effects. Sorry about the low quality but
when it is released I will put a link to it on this site.
