"Shadow" reaches Top Ten
June 2007
The Shadow of the
Dark Lord reaches number 10 in the Film Music sub-genre of the
Soundclick.com Classic Music Charts. There are over 7,000 tracks in the Film
Music sub-genre.
And it has reached number 20 in the Classic Music Charts of
Soundclick.com which has over 25,000 tracks.
My Band achieves 2nd Place
March 2007
The brass band, of which I am the musical director, achieved
2nd place out of 13 bands played at the First Section "West of England 2007 Regionals" Contest. This qualifies us for the
First Section Finals in September 2007.
The test piece was Sinfonietta: The Wayfarer by Eric Ball.
This is the highest position the band has ever come in a
National Contest. The band has never previously been to the First Section
Finals, and it was only two years ago I led them to a 3rd place at the Second
Section Finals.
I am appointed Musical Director of a local Junior Band
June 2006
As well as holding the position of Musical Director with my
own band (which has been in the top 200 bands in the World Rankings, several
times now), I have recently been appointed MD for a Junior Band in which my son
plays kit.
I am delighted with this appointment, the kids so keen and
are learning so fast. I've been very fortunate with my musical education, it is
nice to have an opportunity to give something back.
My Band Wins WBBA and I get Best Conductor Award
3 December 2005
The brass band, of which I am the musical director, has won
the WBBA Contest in the Championship Section for the first time in its history.
The test piece was The Year of the Dragon, by Philip Sparke.
We were also awarded best soloist and I was given the Best
Conductor's Award for my interpretation of the work.
My Band Enters Top 200 World Rankings
November 2005
The brass band, of which I am the musical director, has for
the first time in its history, entered the Top 200 World Rankings as a new entry
at 198.
That makes us one of only 11 bands in the West of England
Area to be in the Top 200.
My Band gets 3rd at National Finals
23 September 2005
The brass band, of which I am the musical director, achieved
3rd place out of 16 bands played at the Second Section "National Finals of Great
Britain" Contest, off a number 2 draw.
The test piece was Belmont Variations by Sir Arthur Bliss.
This is the highest section the band has ever played in the
finals and also, by a long way, the highest position the band has come.

August 2005
Thanks to the fantasy comedy short Bottle, made my young
Scottish filmmaker Fraser Coull, I am now listed in the Internet Movie Data Base
(IMDB).
My Band achieves 2nd Place

The brass band, of which I am the musical director, achieved
2nd place out of 15 bands played at the Second Section "West of England 2005
Regionals" Contest. This qualifies us for the Finals in September 2005 and
secures our promotion to the First Section for 2006.
The test piece was Variations for Brass Band by Ralph
Vaughan-Williams.
This is the highest position the band has come in this
section. The band has never previously been to the Second Section finals, only
the finals for the Third and Fourth Sections which was fourteen years ago.
My Band Achieves 4th Place
December 2004
The brass band, of which I am the musical director, achieved
4th place out of 7 bands played in the Championship Section at the Weymouth
Wessex Brass Band Association Contest.
The test piece was Cloudcatcher Fells.
We were the highest placed nationally graded Second Section
band beating First Section and Championship Section bands.
My Band achieves 4ths Place
April 2004
The brass band, of which I am the musical director, achieved
4th place out of 15 bands played in the Second Section "West of England 2005
Regionals" Contest.
The test piece was Kaleidoscope by Philip Sparke
This was my first time with the band at a Regional contest,
the previous year they achieved 10th position.
